Clank and Noland
Clank and Noland is my first production of second year. This short film follows the narration of 2 robots trying to find a job after doing terribly in their previous roles. The story focuses on these two naive characters, who are unaware they are so terrible at what they do. We will see their previous employments and get a look at exactly why they were let go.
Here is the character concepts I drew up. Clank I feel is inspired by Rodney Copperbottom from Robots the film and Noland named after Chuck Noland from Cast Away and physically from Big Hero 6's Baymax. The characters are not to scale with each other and for this project I decided to take the superhero costume off Clank. This was mainly due to the fact I have never worked with cloth before and modelling/simulating it would take too much time. I also decided Clanks character was better and funnier the more simple it got.
Noland RenderMade on Autodesk Maya using spherical shapes pulled and pushed, textured using aiStandardSurface and my own colours created in Photoshop. Noland caused multiple problems for myself in Maya when it came to the joints, skinning and movement with the Iks (controls).
